Meningitis after combined spinal-extradural anaesthesia in obstetrics.

We report two cases of meningitis which developed after combined spinal-extradural procedures for obstetric analgesia. The first case was thought to be caused by aseptic or chemical meningitis and the second was a case of bacterial meningitis in a patient who also received an extradural blood patch. It is important that meningitis is considered as a differential diagnosis in patients who presen...

Retroperitoneal Spinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst Combined with Congenital Hemivertebrae

Spinal extradural arachnoid cysts usually cause symptoms related to spinal cord or nerve root compression. Here, we report an atypical presentation of a spinal extradural arachnoid cyst combined with congenital hemivertebra which was presented as a retroperitoneal mass that exerted mass effects to the abdominal organs. On image studies, the communication between the cystic pedicle and the spina...

Extradural, spinal or combined block for obstetric surgical anaesthesia.

Spinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst

A spinal extradural arachnoid cyst (SEAC), which is mostly found at the thoracic spine, is a rare disease, accounting for approximately 1% to 3% of spinal tumors. SEACs are most commonly found in the middle or lower thoracic spine, and less frequently found in the lumbar region, although they can be detected at any lesion of the spin...

The cyst was confirmed at surgery and completely removed. This surgical intervention achieved improvement in the neurological symptoms.
